Check out the back of our bags – do you see the green frog logo that says ‘Rainforest Alliance,’ and have you ever wondered what it means? We will explain in today’s blog post what being Rainforest Alliance-certified means, and why it’s important to us all at Bristol Coffee.
The Rainforest Alliance is an international not-for-profit organization, which works tirelessly to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainability. To see their little green frog logo on a product, such as Bristol Coffee, means that the product originates or contains ingredients from Rainforest Alliance-certified farms. Santa Francisca Romana Estates, where Bristol Coffee is grown, is one of those farms. The coffee estate is managed according to strict environmental, social, and economic criteria designed to conserve wildlife and soil quality, prevent erosion and safeguard waterways, reduce chemical use, maintain or increase tree coverage, and protect workers and their communities in order to increase quality of life.
The farms are regularly visited by members of the Rainforest Alliance certification team or one of their international partners in the Sustainable Agriculture Network to ensure the farms are complying with the guidelines and continue to improve. Rainforest Alliance certification also promotes gender equity and access to education for children in these farm communities.
It is very important for the Bristol team to ensure that while we are placing a new product out there, we remain conscious of the environmental footprint and impact we have on the farm and surrounding communities.
Caring for the environment is a great idea, but so is drinking good coffee. So go buy some Bristol, why don't you?
