Our coffee is sourced from our very own coffee estate: Santa Francisca Romana Estates, located in San Marcos, Nicaragua.

Bristol Coffee has no chemical additives or added byproducts, like cocoa or wheat. Bristol Coffee is simply pure Arabica coffee beans, which undergo their whole production process in one place - Santa Francisca Romana Estates, located in the shaded hills of San Marcos, in Nicaragua. Within this process special care and attention to detail contribute greatly to Bristol Coffee’s extraordinary fragrance and fine aroma, its full body taste and mild clean cup.

Our coffee is of such good quality that, during a recent trial, it was described as "Extraordinary" in the Sweet and Clean Cup category. Our coffee also obtained ratings of "Excellent" in the categories of Aroma, Body and Taster Score, and "Very Good" in the other categories of this trial.

OUR STORY

In the late 1880’s, the adventuresome Vaughan brothers, Marshall and Arthur, sailed from the Port of Bristol, England, on one of their more ambitious enterprises: to grow great coffee. They chose to do so in Nicaragua because of its key geographic location, which lends itself to the cultivation of quality coffee. They picked the region of San Marcos because of its altitude and decided on the rich soils of what is now known as Santa Francisca Romana Estates due to its shady rolling hills and cool climate.

Inspired by Arthur and Marshall’s enthusiastic entrepreneurial spirit, their descendants in Nicaragua are now going beyond just producing some of the country’s best coffee for wholesalers, they are bringing their best selection of Arabica beans directly to you. They hope you enjoy it!

SUSTAINABILITY AND COMMUNITY CONSCIOUSNESS

Following sustainable and efficient production processes, which also generate quality coffee, Santa Francisca Romana Estates has been certified by the Rainforest Alliance, under registration number: SFC-F-008 557. The plantation has not only met the requirements of the Rules of the Sustainable Agriculture Network for the production of coffee, but its excellent production and harvesting practices have also helped it attain the UTZ Certification. Being Rainforest Alliance and UTZ certified which assures products have been sourced from farm to shelf in a sustainable manner.

In addition, we are committed to the conservation of biodiversity and waterways, as well as ensuring a sustainable livelihood for our workers and surrounding communities. In being strictly shade grown, our coffee requires little or no chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides. The shade trees filter carbon dioxide, which causes global warming, and aid in soil moisture retention, which minimizes erosion. Coffee plantations, which are chemically dependent, suffer from soil depletion and increased erosion. Shade coffee farms are, for the most part, organic and sustainable. At Santa Francisca Romana, we use 100% organic compost to fertilize our coffee plants, and our coffee varietals are naturally resistant to leaf rust ensuring we don't use chemical herbicides of any kind.
